As you may or may not be aware, ANZAC Day is the day when Australians and New Zealanders around the world remember all those who have given their lives in war and honours those that have served. The distinctive element of the ANZAC Day ceremonies is the Dawn Service, which symbolically links commemorations with the dawn landing by the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) at the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey on 25 April 1915.

Since 2006 the Anzac dawn service in Dublin has been a well-attended and significant event for our communities in Ireland, as well as for a range of Irish veterans and community groups from all across the country. Previous services have been well attended by around 350 VIPs and guests, including President Higgins, other politicians, the Chief of Staff of the Irish Defence Forces, members of the Diplomatic Corps.

The Kilkenny Great War Memorial Committee held a ceremony at the Kilkenny Great War Memorial in the Peace Park, Kilkenny city on Sunday April 23rd at 16.30 hrs to commemorate ANZAC day. Australia's Deputy head of misison, attended and spoke on behalf of the Australia Embassy.
The ceremony will consist of prayer, poetry, music, speeches and reflection. Last Post and Reveille rendered and Piper's lament played.
